Toronto Zoo – Information, Location and Discount Rates

Toronto Zoo – A Guide for visitors to the Zoo, what to see and do.

The Zoo is located at 361A Old Finch Avenue and home to over 5,000 animals, the zoo has something of interest to just about everyone. It is one of the largest zoo’s in the world and boasts over 10 Kilometers of walking trails.
Since opening to the public in 1974, the zoo’s focus on conservation and education has brought quality and variety to the many exhibits and attractions on the grounds.

More than 500 different animal species can be found at the Toronto Zoo including various mammals, birds, fish, insects, reptiles, and amphibians. They are grouped by their geographic origins such as “African Savanna” or “Eurasia”.

Some of them, especially tropical animals, live indoors housed in special pavilions. Many others live outdoors in enclosures made to mimic their natural environment.

Visitors can observe animals in the outdoor settings from a variety of viewing levels. There are sometimes special exhibits with new animals or additional interactive displays so be sure to call or visit the official website for information.

Zellers Discovery Zone

The Zellers Discovery Zone is a portion of the zoo designed specifically with children and families in mind. It encompasses three child-friendly attractions open during the warmer months.

The Kids Zoo allows visitors to meet and interact with some smaller or domestic animals and has hands-on animal habitat displays.

Splash Island is an educational two-acre water park with a waterfall, and the Waterside Theater offers animal shows at scheduled times during certain months, sometimes hosting children’s shows and concerts.

Other Attractions at the Toronto Zoo

In addition to the animal exhibits and Zellers Discovery Zone, the Toronto Zoo offers rides, shopping and food. The rides, which require tickets or wristbands, include camel rides, pony rides, a very colorful “Conservation Carousel”, and the Zoomobile, which allows riders to traverse the zoo all day, getting on and off at stops as desired.

The rides have different hours and days of operation, and may close in bad weather.

Visitors looking for toys, apparel, and other souvenirs can find gift shops located at several points throughout the park. Some of these have restricted hours or are only open on weekends.

From a variety of cafes, restaurants and carts inside the zoo, hungry zoo-goers can get food and beverages ranging from coffee, bagels and fruit, to burgers, fries and ice cream.
